If the last few years have taught us anything, it’s that we never know what is around the corner. That’s why it’s important to live for today and snap up every opportunity we can to enrich our lives and do all those things we’ve dreamed about doing.
For many, Antarctica forever sits on the bucket list. A dream destination that we would love to visit but just seems a little out of reach.
Here’s the thing though. Antarctica has never been more accessible than it is now. There are several cruise lines heading to the White Continent with varying levels of comfort and luxury. The dreaded Drake Passage isn’t as dreaded any more now that ships are being built with stabilisers and all the modern technology that enables the captain and navigator to pick the smoothest course.
These days, we can spend an afternoon rubbing shoulders with countless penguins and seals and hiking up snow covered hills, then warm up in a sauna or spa while chefs whip up gourmet delights. We can admire the blue-hued icebergs with our hands wrapped around a hot barista coffee. Or we can duck downstairs on Ponant ships to view the underwater happenings from the comforts of the Blue Eye Lounge.
If the long flight to South America plus a connecting flight to Ushuaia puts you off, there are options to depart from New Zealand and head across the Ross Sea instead. A short flight into Christchurch or Dunedin and then cruise the rest of the way!
Antarctica is the world’s last frontier, the last unspoiled continent where you can only leave footprints. What better time to see it than now?
