Milford Sound is next as you cruise the inlet carved out by glaciers over hundreds of years. On a fine day, the view is spectacular with mountainous peaks plunging to the dark waters and on rainy days, you’ll see waterfalls galore tumbling over the cliffs and seemingly out of the misty clouds. Either way, you can’t go wrong!
You’ll then head further south to Steward Island, known for its fantastic fishing and birdlife and authentic New Zealand lifestyle.
Next it’s time to head north and you’ll cruise north along the South Island’s eastern coastline stopping to explore in picturesque Akaroa, whale watching in Kaikoura and cruise amongst the islands and fjords of Queen Charlotte Inlet into Picton. Another stop in New Zealand’s capital city of Wellington and then you’ll continue up the eastern coast of the North Island.
Sample some award-winning wines and enjoy the art deco architecture in Napier, discover the culturally rich geothermal town of Rotorua and spend a day enjoying the beautiful vistas, wines and olive groves of Waiheke Island. The final stop is in the Bay of Islands, home to over 100 islands in a spectacular bay and the site of the signing of the 1840 Treaty of Waitangi.
The cruise finishes up in Auckland where you can easily spend a few days exploring, cruising the harbour and seeing the sights or extend your stay to visit iconic places such as Hobbiton or the Waitomo Caves.
